The finest luxury rental home on Smith Mountain Lake

Located in the finest lakeside community, The Water’s Edge, this French country manor is perched on the south shore of Smith Mountain Lake. With plentiful space and activity, The Castle makes for the perfect retreat for families and couples alike.

This luxury vacation rental is comprised of 8,400 square feet of total living space. With 7 bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms, The Castle is appropriately furnished and designed to accommodate large groups or families. In contrast to the typical dormitory-style bedrooms found in many vacation rentals, The Castle is designed with comfort in mind; all will feel relaxed and comfortable for the duration of their stay.

The Castle accommodates 16 guests (12 adults and 4 children). The home is easily accessible, as it features a 3-floor cherry elevator. The residence has strong, high-speed wifi throughout the home, making it optimal for working remotely or virtual classes for school-age children.

We are connected with various local businesses and individuals to assist in creating the most enjoyable experience for guests. Grocery delivery services, private chefs, drop-off boat rentals, private in-home masseuses, or lake guides may be hired directly by guests. McConnell golf members have full access to The Water's Edge golf course and country club amenities (for a fee).

From early June until the end of August, summer rentals are a one-week minimum (high season). Check-in and check-out during the high season occur from Saturday to Saturday.

This spacious main floor features 10-foot ceilings. With an open floor plan designed for casual living, there is abundant space for all. Brazilian walnut flooring covers the entire first floor.

The living room houses a table for 6 with space to play board games and complete puzzles or work on computers and laptops.

The lower level patio adjoins to the lower Queen bedroom. With extraordinary views of the lake, seating for 8 and a hanging cedar swing chair, the patio is the epitome of tranquility.

The lower level laundry room (one of two laundry facilities at the estate) is convenient for washes after a day spent by the lake or pool. The laundry room also features a wash tub for soaking and cleaning.

Queen Bedroom

The Queen bedroom features a coffered ceiling, full bathroom with a Corian integrated sink and tub + shower combo.

The largest master bedroom at The Castle property features a vaulted ceiling with unique hammer beam trusses. The four poster California King bed sits opposite the gas fireplace with a custom mantle and Smart TV. The bedroom is extremely spacious and surrounded by fabulous views of Smith Mountain. Additional features include:

  • Master bathroom with custom double vanity with built in cabinets

  • Jacuzzi tub surrounded by custom travertine tile

  • Shower with dual shower heads with individual temperature controls

The bonus room is the optimal space for families with young children.

  • A baby crib + pack 'n play for babies or toddlers (not included in the total bed count of The Castle)

The first of three Queen bedrooms on the second floor features an exquisite lake view, antique English bed frame, 2 separate closets and a bathroom with a tub-shower and single vanity.

The second of two laundry facilities at the estate, the upstairs laundry room includes a washer, dryer and wash tub. 

Upper Level ("The Playroom")

"The Playroom" features a custom designed elevated stage for kids (or adults) to perform, as well as:

  • Spacious area for relaxing and playing

  • Restoration Hardware L-shaped sofa with a chaise lounge

  • Large smart TV with first generation X-Box, accompanied by several controllers

The second of three Queen bedrooms on the second floor features a  modern bed frame with an armoire and closet, two side tables and a view overlooking the lake. The bedroom shares a bathroom with dual sinks and a private shower/commode room.

The third of three Queen bedrooms on the second floor is front-facing. The bedroom features a dresser, closet side table and shares a bathroom with dual sinks and a private shower/commode room.

The Castle's dock accommodates all types of guests: those who enjoy lounging or relaxing lakeside, as well as those excited to hop on a jet ski or paddle board through the cove.

Smith Mountain Lake is a popular destination because of its natural beauty and endless activity. Enjoy swimming, fishing, boating, tubing, waterskiing, wake-boarding, dining at restaurants both on and off of the water, visiting wineries, listening to live bands, hiking, mountain biking, putt putt golfing, rock climbing, visiting the movies - and so much more! The lake has many restaurants and marinas accessible via boat and car to enjoy.

The Castle provides an owner's guide book with complete information about local sights and activities around Smith Mountain Lake. There are two national chain grocery stores in close proximity to the estate, between 15 to 20 minutes away. Walmart is 20 minutes away; there is a small market/gas station 5 minutes away.

The Castle's lakeside dock is located in a quiet, safe cove, optimal for safe swimming without heavy boat traffic. The oversized 12' x 36' ft fixed dock provides ample space for gathering and relaxation with two dock tables + chairs and chaise lounges, while the floating dock with an attached ladder is ideal for securing your boat or jet ski.

 

The following are provided for the duration of your stay for lakeside enjoyment:

  • Three kayak s(one can accommodate two individuals)

  • Stand-up paddle board

  • Variety of floats and pool noodles

  • Corn hole

  • Fishing rods

There is a community boat ramp approximately two minutes away from The Castle available to house personal boats and jet skis. Pontoon boats, ski boats and jet skis are available for rent through a local boat rental company (located five minutes away via car).They will deliver your boat or jet ski to our dock free of charge if you mention The Castle.

Owner's Requests

The owners of The Castle have requested...

 

  • No pets. While pets are prohibited at The Castle, there are several boarding kennels nearby (information will be provided upon request).

  • No bachelor or bachelorette parties. Bachelor and bachelorette parties are prohibited, as the owners of The Castle wish to preserve the integrity and quality of their home, as well as respect their neighbors and neighborhood. Weddings, parties and events are strictly prohibited.

  • No smoking. The Castle is a smoke-free household.

The Neighborhood

Explore The Castle's lovely and safe upscale neighborhood within The Water's Edge community. The neighborhood has an extensive road network with flat and gentle terrain, ideal for walking, biking or exploring.

 

The Castle's front yard has a gentle slope, perfect for kicking a ball or playing croquet (a set is available for guests of the estate). 10 bikes are provided for exploring the residential neighborhood.

Reminder: full-week rentals during the peak season (spanning from Memorial Day until Labor Day) should be booked from Saturday-Saturday.
